University of Central Oklahoma campus, Edmond, Oklahoma

On February 22, 1998, McGary installed a 30-foot high 15-foot wide monument weighing over ten tons at the Houston Astrodome. The sculpture, “Touch The Clouds”, depicts a nineteenth century Miniconjou Chief who fought alongside Crazy Horse at the Battle of Little Big Horn. The project was announced at a ceremony and national media press conference in February 1996, where Dave unveiled a forty-three-inch bronze Masterwork of the monument Although the new art collection owned by The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is extensive, “Touch The Clouds” is the first Native American depicted and the largest bronze figure of the sculpture collection. The 20,300-pound sculpture was purchased by the city of Edmond, Oklahoma from the Houston Livestock Rodeo Association in 2014. The city is well known for its installations of public art throughout the community and provided Touch the Clouds” with complete restoration before installation at the University of Central Oklahoma on May 22, 2016.
