Bear Tracks is a sequel to Four Bears and depicts this noted
Mandan Second Chief of the mid-19th century in full regalia. He was renowned
both for his bravery, which was reflected in his name, and for his ceremonial
dress, which was documented by artist and explorer Karl Bodmer in 1833. The
buffalo hide robe which Four Bears unfurls is one which he crafted and embellished
with pictorials of his many forays into battle.
