Gray Hawk is a Lakota Sioux warrior who is proudly displaying his bounty captured from his mortal enemy, the Crow. Gray Hawk, a relative of Long Soldier, is known for a unique courageous encounter. As the legend goes, Gray Hawk successfully outwits many Crow warriors by stealing their horses from camp. These horses, having just returned from a raid, are still wearing their war regalia when captured. Gray Hawk successfully leads these horses away up to a bluff where his young son awaits. The pursuing Crow warriors look up and pay him homage realizing they have been defeated.
